D-Ring Calculator — Picture Hanging Hardware
Work out D-ring placement and screw positions for picture hanging.
How We Calculate This
How D-Ring Placement Works
D-ring position = Frame height / 3 from top
The one-third rule keeps the centre of gravity above the hanging point, so the frame sits flush against the wall. Both rings go on opposite sides at the same height — string wire between them for a central hook, or hook each ring onto its own screw set the ring-spread distance apart. D-ring size is matched to the total frame weight (conservative per-pair ratings), and the screw length is kept shorter than a typical moulding depth so it cannot punch through the frame face.
