How We Calculate This
This calculator converts between paper sizes and provides dimensions in millimetres, centimetres and inches.
Area = Width x Height in your chosen units. For multiple sheets, the total area is multiplied by the number of sheets.
A-series sizes (ISO 216)
- A0: 841 x 1189 mm (1 m²)
- A1: 594 x 841 mm
- A2: 420 x 594 mm
- A3: 297 x 420 mm
- A4: 210 x 297 mm
- A5: 148 x 210 mm
- A6: 105 x 148 mm
Frequently Asked Questions
A4 (210 x 297 mm) is the most commonly used drawing paper size in the UK. A3 (297 x 420 mm) is popular for larger work and life drawing. A2 is common for detailed finished pieces.
Each A-series size is exactly half the next larger size. A4 is half of A3, A3 is half of A2, and so on. All sizes maintain the same 1:1.414 aspect ratio (1:root 2).
The US uses Letter (8.5 x 11 inches / 216 x 279 mm) and Legal (8.5 x 14 inches / 216 x 356 mm) sizes. These are different from A-series sizes, which are the ISO standard used in the UK and most of the world.
